How is everyone handling brick porches for the front of their homes? Are you using solids or am I missing something on the draw menu to do this with?

Thank you,

James, if you arre asking about a brick floor this is waht I do.  You need to create a 3-D textured file.  Then go to room mode, name the porch and in the flooring tab pick a floor covering.  At this point pick anything.  Regenerate, and edit the porch floor. Pick exterior finishes, then brick and choose the color/texture you want.

I created a wall 2 1/2" thick in the wall options that is stone only, could be brick etc., to use around porches, fireplaces etc.

When placing a chimney through the roof I offset the bottom of the wall to a point above the ceiling if narrower than the

fireplace and then edit walls to desired height above the roof.

can you give us a little more info on "exactly"

what you need this porch to look like meaning

what is the construction to look like.

the more info you give us, the better we

can help you with some different ways

to do it in softplan.

always more than "one-way" to do things.

for example.

the porch is 3' above the grade,

the side walls are constructed of

stud walls with brick.

the brick floor is supported by  (on a wood joist floor)

or (on concrete)

a picture would be nice.

are there posts / columns with a roof overhead ?

you get the idea.

I am looking for the best way to create the brick pavers for the top of the porch. I was hoping SP would have a way of doing so without having to use solids. At times this will also be a stone finish.

I've never seen a porch done, in pavers like that. However, I believe that a SOLID would be your best bet, add texture to suit.

That's the way it's done here. Porch foundation walls are put in at the same time as the house foundation walls for a basement then filled, compacted (Hopefully) and then a concrete slab poured. Brick pavers are installed when the porch is wrapped in brick. Slab will typically not be so thick at the house as I have drawn it because cmu filler would probably be used to the underside of the 4" slab. How is it handled in your area?

Out this way, Western Canada, .. we use this approach, .. similar to yours, but with grade beam on piles, .. monolithic pour, .. don't usually add pavers.

.. invariably, someone will have a simpler solution.

Eastern Canada is normally done with a full foundation and either filled with gravel or left open as a cold room - normally left with a concrete finish externally.

the easiest and by far the fastest is to use

solid / cubes or 3d polygons.

draw one in place and to the correct size

and than use / tool / offset and offset them

the distance of a tread.

once you've done that you can edit the cubes

and offset each one (in common tab) UP or Down

NOTE: not sure this would be the best way if your using softlist

but you probably can create a formula that would be close enough.

you can see the 3 cubes that were used for the porch and steps

at the far left separated.

note 2:  this would be fine for a simple cross section

and you can create the precise detail with shapes and whatever

other drawing tools you use for your details.

than save the detail for use in other projects.

trying to draw the porch in 3d exactly how you'd build it isn't necessary.

what you see on the "outside" in 3d  is what your mainly after.

note: many people draw just what you'd see in an exterior 3d rendering

of a foundation plan and than draw what's on the inside with shapes

in their sections and plan.

notice the ENDS of beams /

you create the PROFILES for the beams and many other things

and add them to the correct profile libraries.

btw,

the camber / curve at bottom of the beam

is done with a wall (acting as a beam in softplan)

and a camber or ellipse (used in this illustration) arch placed in the wall (beam)

and edited as needed.
