I want to go into a custom layer and have notes in that layer that don't show up in other layers. Also would like to add shapes to that layer without adding all the shapes from the entire plan. I'm sure there's a way...

Do you mean LAYERS or MODES ... Layers is easy ... Modes not so much. As far as I've been able to ascertain, you can't move items between modes. They have to be created in the mode you want to see them in!

Unless you put those items on a layer and then turn that layer on in a mode you want them in. Or, with even more control you can put those items in a building option and then choose custom visibility in the drawing when on a plan set page.

Customer wants different paint on different walls. So I want to create another "layer" or "mode" that shows only the building outline and then add in the details of the paint for this wall and that wall for an example. when I go into "Custom 1" layer and start to add that kind of detail it says "would you like to turn visibility on for this item" Then all the notes from the plan come in. I draw a line to depict a certain color of paint on a certain wall. It asks about turning on visibility for shapes, and I get all the shapes.

when you ask if I want "layer" or "Mode" I am not sure myself.

My questions are basic.... However you all seem to be very kind on this forum and I decided to quit cringing in ignorance and ask. thanks to all.

First, set your "active layer" to be the one you draw anything in the Custom 1 Mode (normally Default Layer is checked/highlighted, but check "Custom 1 Lines Layer" or whatever you named it) for when you want those things to show only. Then, when you start drawing a line and it asks if you want to turn on visibility for shapes select no. It will show what you've drawn on the new active layer if set to be visible in that mode. If you already have all shapes showing, you can go back to visibility options and turn off shapes, but the objects drawn on your new layer will still show if that is checked for visibility.

Then, be sure to reset the active layer for the things you want on default or other layers when done. I forget sometimes and then have to go back and edit what layer things are on.
