We've added a new feature exclusive to SoftPlan and SoftPlan+ subscribers. This feature allows you to publish 3D models directly to the web to be viewed by anyone you wish. Once published, we create a link to your web3d page which we host on our site. Anyone you share this link with can view and explore your project without needing to download and install any additional software. SoftPlan web3d models can be viewed and navigated on PC, phone, or tablet.

Very cool feature. I especially like the model that was uploaded. Is this available to us in the sample plans to reverse engineer some of the softplan features used?

No, we don't include this in the sample projects.

Look to the SoftPlan start page. There is a new web3d column. Right click on the project and you can remove it from web3d.
If you just wish to remove it from the public page but still have your model online, just publish it again with the public option unchecked.

This is great, I have waited a long time to see something like this added to Soft Plan, thank you.

The only comment I have is It would really be nice to see an upgrade to the quality of the textures in the future, everything looks washed out and fuzy.

If the project is not uploaded to the cloud, it won't create a unique link every time, but continually use the same link for different projects so that any links already emailed will change whenever a new project is published.

This is unhandy, but can be worked around by uploading to the cloud first.

Is there a way to publish the presentation "doll house mode"

This would be awesome for clients to be able to spin and move around in this mode.

The issue I have in 3d is in smaller houses the perspective is not real good and you don't get a good feel of the space.

If there was a way they could spin, zoom in/out .  A lot of people have trouble reading prints and this feature really helps it come alive.  They can see everything from flooring, door swings, cabinets, ect.

I use this feature in our preconstruction meetings but I have to be controlling it in softplan.    I would love the feature to email them something or publish something they could click on and interact with.

Kinda like it seams we can now do on the outside of the house.

Thanks

Jon

Well found out how to do export for the presentation mode.  Its awesome!!   This will really help our clients/homeowners...       BUT.........

We Need softplan to fix one thing.   Apparently you can only do one export link per project.

So if I wanted to export the 3d exterior it saves a link.

But then when I do the export in presentation mode it saves over the first link.

Two solutions for softplan

1.  When doing the export, have ability to include the presentation views as well as exterior view.

Then have a way to toggle between the exterior view or any of the included floor presentation views.  (this would be the best option)  That way people could view the exterior, Then have the ability to look at the floor plan via presentation mode.  Again presentation mode is a really great feature softplan has.  We get great feed back from our clients when they can see the presentation mode. (a lot of people have trouble visualizing floor plans)

(you still would keep the ability to go to rooms in 3d)  But the presentation mode is key especially for small spaces that don't look good or cant get a true feel on how it looks for that view)

2.  Allow for multi export links on a project.  (not as good but would take it, better than nothing)

I really like this feature.  I'm hoping (fingers crossed) the Softplan team can tweak this amazing new feature for us.

Glad you like it Jonathan.

Your request has been noted. (CO 54833)

Current work arounds would be:

File->Save->Save Revision

Open the project revision.  Publish from the revision.

OR

File->Save->Copy Project To..

Open the project copy.  Publish from the copy.

The revisions and copy are disjoint from the original project, however they will get their own copy of the model, for the purposes of web3d, which can be managed.

Does anyone know why a SoftPlan file would not be able to export a web3d model? The error message that came up was "SoftPlan was not able to publish the SoftPlan web3d model."

I think I've had that happen when my internet connection is bogged down. It could be your system is over-taxed and shutting down and restarting might solve it as well.

Are you in a 3d view?  You have to export it while you are in a 3d mode view.

Does anyone know how different things affect file size? I have exported a project to web3D, but it seems larger than it should be compared to other projects I have done. How do these items affect file size?

  1. number of shot points
  2. textures
  3. number of rooms defined
  4. types of symbols included
  5. size of house

BTW:  To eliminate item 1 from the equation, I removed the site from my export and it didn't make a difference

Does anyone know what options or improvements are coming for Web3D that we can look forward to?

Does anyone know if on the web3d export if we would have access to the presentation views as well.   Right now it is really cumbersome because in our design process we do exterior web3d and then a web3d for each floor in the presentation mode.  Our customers are blown away by it because alot of them cant visualize from a set of plans.

But for us to do this we need to save multiple revisions. Due to one export per project.

So main project is exterior

Save revision 1 is basement

Save revision 2 is first floor

Save revision 3 is second floor.

So for a 2 story house we have 4 projects.   And then if something changes (which it does through design and precon process) we have to resave the floor in each revision and then open each one and reexport the web3d.

Would be great if the web3d export would just include tabs at the top that would have the presentation views (that are currently in the model) included

Hoping for this upgrade/fix.

This feature is just awesome.  The 3D isn't very good compared to what we can produce within SP, but giving our clients the ability to walkthrough their house for hours on end is just priceless.  I'd love if the rendering gets better with time, but for now what an awesome feature.  I've sent it to my last 4 clients and they vary in ages from young to older retirement age and they have all loved the experience.  I save time since I no longer need to create the YouTube walk-throughs.   It's hard to overstate the value here.
