In keeping with standards for the NYC Department of Buildings, all of my notes (any note or text appearing on the drawings) needs to be no smaller than 3/32" printed size, regardless of the sheet size on which the drawing is printed.
I changed all of the System Text fonts to Ariel Narrow, Italics, 4-1/2", as this prints at 3/32" when the drawing scale is 1/4"=1'.
I changed the Dimension Font to Ariel Narrow as well, 4-1/2".  I do not see an option for setting the dimension Font to Italic.  Did I just miss it in a setting, or cant the Dimension text (numbers) be Italic?

I think you are correct. I took a look at System and Project level options and nothing related to changing the numbers to ​italics.

Why would you want to make your dimensions to print in italics?  Is this a new government rule there?

Do you think the foundation guys, framers and anyone else on the jobsite care? ;-)

 

One of the reasons I started designing our own plans was trying to hire someone who had a degree in hieroglyphics to interpret the plans we were getting from the local architects.  All my plans font are Arial... and all my crews love it!

Okay, I'm going to ask a stupid question ....

 

Why can't you set the dimension font to the same as the detail text font?

 

The font setting is exactly the same for EVERY character style.

 

 

There is NO option to set the standard fonts to ITALICS ... so how did you do it?

 

If you're using an ITALIC font for standard text, why can't you use the same ITALIC font for dimensions.

I 100% agree David. Clarity over style. In the past I worked with someone who insisted we used SPEVAN font on all our plans. The big problem with SPEVAN is the kerning for the number 1. There is hardly any kerning at all so 11 looks like a thick 1 unless you look closely. It was always causing confusion. I use Arial exclusively now and there is never any complaints.

I use Ariel Narrow Italics for all text  to print @ 3/32" in 1/4"=1' when printed on Arch D paper.
I don't think anyone cares whether or not the dimension text matches the note texts, I only wanted to keep them both the same.

Yes, I'm aware you can do othat ... However, that's not "I changed all of the System Text fonts to Ariel Narrow, Italics" that you said in the first post. You've had to go into EVERY note and explicitly set it to italics. You haven't actually set the System text fonts to italics have you!
