I have a client wanting a Cupola and I hate the things. Hate drawing them. Wish I could talk them out of it. Would be nice though, if we could get that as a function like "add false dormer" --- "add dumbA cupola"  That would be awesome. lol...

Super easy to add.  Draw 4 walls, offset to match the top of the roof, add a roof.  Should take no more than 5 minutes for a small one

Sounds good on paper, but you know good and well 4 walls and a roof wont cut it for picky people.... this thing has glass and lights in it and decorative details etc..... etc.....

I think I'm just going to put a note that says "see attached photo".

I tell my clients to show that picture to their builder all the time.  I'll add in the rough structure of what they want but I won't spend a lot of time on the little details....not getting paid enough for that

I got one off 3D Warehouse that works fine.  I have to do barns every once an a while.  Roof snow guards too.

Put a roof on the Main/Upper floor, and then add another floor above the top floor in the model. Adding chimneys and cupola's (with or without windows) to that level of the model works wonderfully for me.

Yeah I've done that before with chimney's and parapet walls.

I think I'm just going to do a rough sketch on my 2D elevations for this one. Will be the quickest & easiest solution. That, and like you mentioned, have them show their builder the photo.

I just remembered there's one in the symbols list if you're drawing a 2D elevation, go to symbols, exterior, elevations... It's in there.

Didn't work in this case for me since they are wanting one that's glass walled w/ a light fixture but.... just for future reference.

We modeled a couple cupolas in 3d and converted them into a symbol. Then it is super easy to just place them on the roof

Here are 6 I've collected from over the years, I can post them as a .zip if anyone wants them.... perhaps they're part of the standard symbol database, not sure.

Joe,

I came across these posts from 2 years ago & was wondering if this file is still available? It looks great & seems to be what I am looking for.

Thanks in advance for any input on this.

I also struggle with the adding a cupola. Especially the roof design. Any files or tips would be appreciated.

Hey John Davis...I hear you...however..it sounds like you could charge more as a service if they really want a cupola design...say an additional 500 dollars for detailed plans?  Or more$$  dont give your work away
