I want to define an exterior wall that only shows the studs in 2D like a partition wall where the drywall is there but isn't depicted on the drawing.  Using that as an example for my settings on a 2x6 siding wall I unchecked Inside/Outside Visible on the materials I don't want to see.  Unfortunately, I didn't get the results I was expecting. Can this be done with exterior walls?

You will need to uncheck "Texture Visible" for items that have a solid texture pattern - for example sheathing.

with the "3d drawing open" / any mode

try going to

File / material file / load / stick framing - click generate

see what happens.

note:

or with softview open

go to / options / extraction options /

framing - and check the box left of "FRAMING"

it should put a check in each of the individual

framing area boxes.

if needed,  you might have to UNcheck the "display"

by the materials that cover the framing.

they might not have the display unchecked.

note: you can also go into / options / material

and check the materials to see if their unchecked.

if your not confused now,  you will be after reading

what i have to say.

bottom line:

just make sure the extraction options for framing

has the box checked to the left of the areas you

want to see the framing in 3d.

note:  you'll also have to make sure

that materials covering the framing need

to be UNchecked so they don't show in 3d.
