Afternoon! I am a new Softplan user and have learned a ton from the forums - so thanks for all  your input!

I see that a lot of you have highly personally configured setups - from what I can tell SP seems to work best if those configurations are set at the system level before a project is started - and then applied when you open a new project.

I have been try to configure as I learn - so I am within a project and trying to save my configurations as globally as possible. The problem I keep running into is after a certain number of changes it seems like SP gets tired of making the changes - so for instance, today I was customizing the colors of the Area options - I made 5-6 changes to names and colors and it worked/saved fine. After that it would - seemingly arbitrarily - change back certain colors back to the default colors. Last night I was trying to customize walls - I was just wanting to change how the walls look in floor plan view - not materially change it's elements. I made a lot of changes that seemed to work fine, and then it would sometimes not save my changes and other times revert back to default system settings.

I was interested to know - from those of you with highly configured setups - what is the best way to get those set up when you are starting from scratch? What is the best way to just "do it once" when your getting pens, colors, plansets, layers and so on - setup from zero? As you guys make changes (esp. changes that you would prefer be global) are there certain ways that you implement those changes so that it gets input in the correct "spot" and doesn't just revert back to default?

Appreciate your help!

Jake

My major problem has always been colours ... I draw on a white background. I don't think the standard colours were ever intended to be on a white background ... Who draws in YELLOW on WHITE?

So ALL my colours (except black and white) are NON-STANDARD and have been for 10 years. Even so, sometimes I'll do something and the drawing colours will revert back to default. However, once you have them set at SYSTEM LEVEL, it seem that going into the drawing options and resetting the colours back to system colours fixes it until the next glitch that may be months away.

Simply put you're not doing anything wrong, there's NO magic fix ... it's just a glitch in the MATRIX.

I've always done my customizations at drawing level, and then when they appear to work, I've made the same changes at SYSTEM level. That way has always worked for me. You may be able to copy back too SYSTEM these days, that wasn't always the case, so I always do it, the way I'm comfortable with.

Thanks Keith! It is frustrating for sure. This morning I tried go directly into system settings to change the standard colors and it saved only one of my changes - the rest of them immediately revert back to the default color as soon as I click OK.

I keep thinking I must just be making the changes in the wrong place/level - but I am experiencing the same problem no matter where I try and make the change - System/project/drawing

If you change system colours, exit and re-enter the system options are you saying that the colours change back to default then? I've never seen that.

One thing to remember, SYSTEM OPTIONS are only active when you OPEN a NEW PROJECT - PROJECT OPTIONS are only ACTIVE when you open a new drawing. Neither affect already open drawings. You'd have to go into the drawing options and RESET to PROJECT or the project options and RESET to SYSTEM for them to do anything.

As it pertains to walls drawn on the default layer, I believe those color changes have to be made in the wall definition.
