My hopes are all had a great weekend. Hope I say this correctly.

I created a plan set for a builder for one of their clients. Completed

and compensated by the builder. The builder was a bit shady claimed

bankruptcy and ran off with several clients money. The client I am discussing has the completed pdf

of his plan set and he request a dwg of the plan set. From conversations with the builders

representative during the process is his father may be a civil engineer and make

revisions to what I created using autocad. I want to run this by all and get feedback

on how to proceed. I don't feel comfortable others making revisions with my name on the plan.

Thank all in advance for your response.

You can send individual/separate DWG of the Floor Plan, Front Elevation, Rear Elevation and so on. It may be 15 or more DWG’s, but it keeps your name off of the plans.
Of course, also charge a fee for providing said DWG’s….also noting that you are no longer liable, etc.
I typically charge an additional $750-$1000 to provide DWG’s.

Question: Do you retain ownership rights to your plans?

You need to have them sign a release of liability of you. If there is a problem in the future it would not keep them from going after you, but it would help to support you if there is a problem.

I have noticed that websites that sell house plans online can charge 2 to 3 times more for “CAD files” than their standard pdfs.

Charge accordingly…

I don't give up cad files on custom designs...too much liability when they go making changes to things that have my name on it.  The only cad files that leave here are for stock plan sales and they pay very well for that.

Good morning all.

Much is appreciated in the response to my post.

I followed Jason's reply to my issue. Foundation, floor, and elevations without

general notes were provided, no detail drawings. Permit can only be achieved with the pdf.

All recommendations above are going to be incorporated into my plan sets in the future.

Lesson learned. First time for everything. Anyone who read this post, follow the replies above to

avoid the uncomfortable situation I was in.

Again, thanks to all.
