Has anyone had experience with this Brand of Video Card in use with Softplan?

Anything good to say,? .. anything that disappointed you, .. ?

I would be considering a higher end card, ..

Any thoughts much appreciated.

Doug

I have two computers in my office ...one with AMD 7880 and the other with Gforce GTX  960 and we can't really tell the difference.  Everything in Softplan works as well as expected.....

I must admit I haven't read the specs/performance figures recently, but historically the AMD RADEONS and the NVIDIA GEFORCE cards have been very similar in performance. Sometimes the RADEONS are better, and sometimes the GEFORCE cards are better, but there's never been a big gap in performance.

Have a look at this article from PCWORLD which gives much more information that you can ever need, and maybe only serves to confuse ... You might just want to skip right to page 5, and have a look at the bang for the buck items .... Personally, even after reading the whole article I could go either way ... I think it all depends on what kind of deals you can get. Whatever you opt for in the end will very probably be MASSIVELY better than what you are currently using though.

Look also at this Bang for the Buck review ... It seems to bear out what was said in the PC World article

Good luck with the hunt ....

We’re looking at buying two systems, .. we’ve got another draftsperson now, ..

.. might as well get two identical setups, (replace mine at the same time)

.. it’s easiest for us to go customizable (read - preconfigured options)

.. so we were looking at Dell XPS setups, .. that’s where the Radeon question came from

.. I’ve checked the ‘Passmark’ results for the AMD R9 270 ,

(have spent quite some time actually, .. comparing specs, .. but you could do that forever)

.. and yes, .. it’s easily 10 times the card that I’ve got now (comparing the ‘Passmark’ ‘scores’)

.. yet it’s still mid-range enough that the system cost is reasonable

.. invariably, someone will have a simpler solution.

I have an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650 (ATI was bought by AMD) in my Dell Studio 1747 and I'd say stick with the Nvidia Card if you can.  I've never  been very impressed with the permormance of the card in this machine it always seemed a colleague of mine with an older laptop and older Nvidia card always out performed my newer laptop and card.  Now my laptop is now almost 5 years old but I'm sticking to Nvidia from now on in.
