When you copy something to the clipboard is there a way that you have to do it create an insertion point?  Right now you put a block around it and when I try to insert it in another drawing it just seems to have some arbitrary point.  It would be great if there is a way to  have a point (or handle) that I can match up on the new drawing.  It seems to be a wasted step to insert it and then have to go and move it into the proper position.

If you want it in the exact same place on the new drawing, pick "Hold Position" and it will go in the same place as the original drawing.   "Pick Position" allows you to put it where ever you want on the new drawing.

It seem to paste from the top left corner (or arbitrarily slightly outside the corner). I've never understood that myself.

The HOLD position does work well though. If you put an unused reference point on the object that you are copying, and the same reference ANYWHERE on the target drawing, HOLD position will snap it to the reference point.

I use it mostly to copy items from a side elevation, after I copy and reverse it so the HOLD position doesnt work neccesarilly.  Perhaps I will drop it in the suggestion box for the next version.

As I said earlier ...

If you put an unused reference point on the object that you are copying, and the same reference ANYWHERE on the target drawing, HOLD position will snap it to the reference point.

TRY IT OUT. You have effectively got the "point (or handle) that I can match up on the new drawing" that you asked for.

I see it.  Thanks Keith.  That does help.  I didn't have the corresponding reference point correct.  That is definitely a time saver.

Keep in mind that you don't have to block select items that you want to copy. You can always select specific items holding down the ctrl key, then copy to the clipboard.

One thing to consider, instead of using copy to clipboard, try using INSERT and add a whole copy of the drawing to the next drawing. That way, you have all your location points intact in the same drawing and you can block move items as required. Then delete anything you don't want.

Another tip related to the CTRL key.

Typically when copying single items you don't get to select a move point. It's only active with a "copy block" command. However, if you CTRL select an item, you can select a snap point to move it from.
