My old CAD system had extended characters that allowed us to add certain symbols to our text like a plus/minus,degree or diameter symbol. Does SP have something similar?
Thank you,

Yes, .. Softplan will respond (sort of) to the old ASCII character codes, .. (you can also check your Windows Character Map for the Fonts you use)
examples, .. Alt+0176 will give you degrees °, .. Alt+0177 results with ±, , ..
.. again some work, some don't, .. but thru the character map you can cut and paste whatever's available within your chosen font.
.. invariably, someone will have a simpler solution.

As Doug says some fonts are different. So check within the Character set. I personally prefer BabelMap, It gives a little bigger preview for those of us with failing eyesight. A good UNICODE font may contain a few thousand characters. Check out the characters available in ARIAL UNICODE MS.
I remember degrees ° = ALT+248 and squared ² = ALT+253, but there again I remember using the ASCII codes to draw boxes with double and single lines when the codes only went to 255.
Some common ones are:
ALT+0188 = ¼
ALT+0189 = ½
ALT+0190 = ¾
ALT=0216 = Ø
and if you really want to get creative, (if your chosen font supports them):
ALT+8539 = 1/8
ALT+8540 = 3/8
ALT+8541 = 5/8
ALT+8542 = 7/8
Although this text box doesn't support them .....
