Hi All,

I'm trying to add a line to show grade on my elevations (not a dadum, just a line for the actual dirt/grass). I would like anything below grade to show as a dashed line (Foundation), but I'm struggling to figure this out.

Thanks!

Stacey

Stacey,

On attached 2D Elevation the Block Cut tool was used to cut between the Grade line and foundation, lines adjusted up to touch

the Grade Line and then all below grade lines edited to dashed lines. Steve

I'm assuming you are going to model and building a front/rear/right/left elevation.     Then you need to " save as" a softplan drawing there.

Now you have a drawing of the elevation and can draw lines on it , erase, stuff, add paint, like shingles , siding, etc.

You can edit the line to be a dashed line, or do splines

Thank you, Steve, I tried using the block cut tool, but it doesn't appear to have done anything? Which screen/mode are you using it? I tried on the South Elevation - Annotated (the block cut tool doesn't appear as an option in the model space.)

I'm not modelling, as in creating 3D renderings, just want to show 2D elevations on my page, but the foundation is showing as solid, which isn't how I typically show items that are below grade.

Stacey I have not tried the block cut tool in animated , the elevation above was generated by saving a view, such as the annotated view

as a Softplan Drawing as Fred mentioned, after which the block cut tool should work on the lines and polygons created. After the 2D drawing

is generated I will explode the drawing items and edit as needed to clean up the 2D elevation.

OK! I'm about 75% of the way there.... Now I need some direction on the actual foundation itself... Mine is still showing up grey, and I can only erase the colour off of my entire elevation or have colour on the entire thing (including the foundation that is below grade).  I would love for my foundation to be clear (white), and the above grade areas to have colour/be hatched.

Stacey, have a look at this tutorial ... a method that I still use today. I find it easier than anything else.

I haven't found a way not to erase all the colors, but you can come back with paint and solid and get your colors.

Altho lately I add shingles or stone and things and give the lines that make up those things a color, by editing the paint.  Gives me what I need.

I use renderings when i want to add a 3d picture to the plans in color, by saving to View file, then drag and drop into planset.

Here is how I do it.  It took a while to get it working the way I wanted but now I can have live elevations that show my foundation as hidden below grade.

I make sure to paint my foundation and footing white.  Then, in annotated mode I draw linework depicting my grade.  Next I draw a shade break around everything that is below grade.  Shade paint inside the shade boundaries with a 45 degree angle hatch.  I have a pen setup that prints as white and has a width of .55.  I edit the scale of my hatching so that the hidden lines display the way that I want.

I attached 2 files.  One is a screenshot showing the items I have talked about and the other is a pdf showing how it will print on your plansets.

Hope this helps!
