I'm doing some work with 3D images.  Is there any way to put a different background in?  Instead of green grass up till the sky put in mountains or a wheat field on the horizon.

Great! I found it myself.  Go to Mode Options/Background.  Click on the picture that is there and search for my new picture!

Hi Kathy, to answer part of your question, you can also change the grass texture by going to 'Mode', Material. In the Material dialogue, it gives you the ability to control all of your textures in the 3D Mode. If you want to change the texture of your grass to something that matches the desired background, you can go to 'Material' and select 'Site' when selecting a material category. You then should see a menu change to edit the Property. SoftPlan provides a list of materials under the Site Textures. Ensure 'Display Texture' is enabled in the top left and you should be able to either select a new material from the library or import custom one into the SoftPlan Textures folder. I am unaware if it requires you to close and re-open your project to see the imported texture, but there are a ton of options that SoftPlan provides that can get you closer to the look you are wanting.

Something I have done in the past is when I drew up an addition and went out to the job to measure it up, I took a picture of the view behind the house. I put this picture into the folder at 3D > TEXTURES > BACKGROUNDS which allowed me to use it as the background for the 3d model.

Have you tried taking a 360 pan from the middle of the building lot and using that for your background?

That is a good idea! Most of the new buildings I do are small and I hardly ever go out on the lot. I would love to try it sometime though.

And if you can't do that, a possible alternate is to generate a 360 from Google street view using https://istreetview.com/

Only problem is that the 3D panoramic is generated from the middle of the street instead of the middle of the lot.
