Hello Everyone,
I was wondering when all of you draw in softplan do you typically have an engineer review your plans to verify placement of all structural items? Is that common practice or do most of you already have a general understanding?

Hello Wendy. I am not an Engineer. I am an Architect and I do my own engineering. And I am in California. I review plans that are furnished by the designer. An yes, I have about 8 designers and I look them over. Only one is in California. For him i do the engineering. The others are out of state so I just look it over for vertical and lateral loads and forces.
What jurisdiction are you in? And what is your standard product that you produce?

Most counties in my area require an engineers stamp for anything that they (plan reviewers) can not look up in the current adopted code. Commercial is always sealed...usually due to Fire Safety Code. Roof truss layout is sealed in one county,
even though the individual trusses are loaded from the truss vendor. It's been a moving target for a while.
