I have a project in which 8" Structural Insulating Panels are to be installed over steel rafters that are designed like a timber truss (8" x 12" steel tubing with exposed steel webbing and lower chord).  How do I draw the SIP panels and replace the normal plywood sheeting?  Also, the SIP panels will extend past the rafter tails along the eave by 12".

Are you wanting to show the SIP panels on the elevations or the Section?

on the elevations you wouldn’t see the sip anyways so just use a regular roof, adjust for the heel height and change the fascia to 10”.

on the sections you’ll need to draw those manually with a box or lines and insulation fill to represent the steel truss and the sip panel.

im guessing this might help?

thanks for your response.  I am wanting to show the panels in both the elevation and section drawings.  Part of my issue is that the "tails" of the steel trusses will have a 36" overhang from the outside of the exterior wall - and the 8" SIP will extend another 12" past the tail of the steel truss - thus being 48" from the outside of the exterior wall.  Both the edge of the SIP and the steel rafter tail will have plumb cuts.  Is there a way to "assemble" an alternate roof sheeting (SIP) just like we "assemble" the various wall configurations?

You could still use a roof with 48” overhang and 10” fascia adjusted for heel height, then use solid’s sloped to match pitch and adjust offset to suit.

There is no simple way to do what your wanting to do, I’m not aware of any ability to assemble roofs like walls.

You would get a better response if you create a account and not sign in as a guest.

cheers
