I couldn't seem to find a post cap with a light, so I make one with SP and imported it into the symbols 'Post Cap' library. I was feeling good about the symbol because it actually worked when added to the drawing. BUT here's the situation - when I add the the post caps in the 'Railing' they do not want to light up?

Not a big priority, but there might be an easy fix.

Thanks for viewing,

TOM

PS i tried to attach a jpg rendering of the dilemma

Once you add it to the railing does it show up as a light in electrical mode? My guess is it needs to be in the electrical symbols library in order to show as a light. I've never tried to do a symbol with a symbol inside it, but maybe that is a solution? Create it as an electrical symbol, then put that in the post cap symbol?

Hi Mark, thanks for the suggestion, but yes I had tried that option also exactly as you had described above, and to no avail

Might have to just put a light in it separate. Would be nice if it worked (kind of like cabinet lighting).

I wanted to circle back and let you know what SP support had to say:

"There isn’t an option to turn the light source on for a symbol being used as a Post Cap, but I’ve forwarded this onto our development team on your behalf.

I’d suggest manually adding the symbol on top of the posts using the ‘Draw>Symbol’ dialog so that the light source can be shown in 3D.

You may also want to use the ‘Edit>Surface Edit’ command in a 3D view, select the glass surface of the symbol and increase the Emissive in the Lighting tab to make it appear that the surface is emitting light."

SP Support responded within 24 hours - they're the best!

Anyways, it may be coming down the pike, and thanks Mark and Brent!
