Considering a move in a few years. .
Pulling up stakes and restarting in new area feels like it will be intimidating..
Anyone with experience doing something like that ?.. how'd it go ?.. tips.. opinions.. thoughts...
Thanks

Nothing definite yet.. we want to get out of the foothills and snow..
Definitely some places in CA I'd love to go, but not sure I want to pay those home prices..
But self employed and restarting from scratch seems a bit daunting..
Places close to us we are considering where we would not need to start over..
We have a couple years to look at options, but wondering how big a factor the fear of relocation and starting from scratch should be..
Hope others have been down this road with good advice..

I've been putting all my growth efforts into selling stock plans online.  Did just over 100k in sales last year.  Another few years of growth and I won't do much more custom work other than for the builders I really like working with.  I can sell anywhere in the world.  Last march in Italy I sold almost 10k worth of plans while on vacation!

I have pulled up stakes and made a major move once. I transitioned from being design build in WI , to just design in CO. I was fortunate to find a engineer friend who wanted someone who would draw. He sends a lot of work my way. I still do projects all over, but a majority in the area I live. I prefer the slow build of word of mouth. It takes longer, but I think is more solid.  I also have a friend who I knew from the log and timber industry who is now drawing remotely for us. He does projects that either do not need many site visits or are ground up working with clients over the phone and conference calls. These days communication is much easier.

Coming from CA to just about anywhere, plus your talents - Tom - you'd get work without much trouble

@thomas roman, move to Florida...everyone else is!  lol
Seriously though, could be a potential opportunity for a licensed Architect!
DM me if FL is on your radar.

At 72 years old we are raising our hands for online plan sales as well, have to do something with that 48+ year collection of plans. All tips welcome!!

A little hesitant given more and more clients come to the first meeting for a custom plan set with copyrighted plans stolen from the internet wanting

" just a few changes to make this plan our own ". Open to selling our plans, not interested in having them stolen.
