Hello

I want to turn a electrical plug sideways so it fits between the window casing and the countertop. Seems pretty simple but am stumped. Could you help? Please and thanks

Create a new outlet symbol in the electrical symbol folder you want it in. Link it to the 3D outlet symbol you want to use and go into orientation. Then, change the orientation so you get it rotated as you like.

All I can get is it turning on the wrong axis. so then in views the plug is 1/2 in the wall and 1/2 out,  turned so you would need to plug the cord in from the left pushing it to the right rather than straight in?

Mark's suggestion should work for you. Here are the detailed steps to achieve the desired results. While on your floor plan drawing, go to FILE > SYSTEM OPTIONS > SYSTEM LIBRARY. Select ELECTRICAL from the drop-down menu. Assuming you want to keep the same symbol, navigate to the outlet you want to use under STANDARD and click on it to select. Click COPY SYMBOL at the bottom and give it a name in the dialog that opens. Give it a name that you can easily find later like "outlet rotated". Hit OK and scroll down and select the newly-created outlet and click EDIT SYMBOL. Select ORIENTATION and in the box that opens choose the correct top view. Select OK > OK and the symbol should be ready for use.

I did what you say. It worked in that plan. went to different plan and added the "outlet sideways" and look in the 3d or interior elevation and the plug is upright. the symbol shows it sideways but in 3d its still upright. ??

If you made the changes in the system library, they should remain consistent from project to project.

Did you make a new symbol or modify and existing? Like Wendall says, if creating or modifying symbols you want for all future projects, be sure to do it in the System Library.

ok, I am the one not getting something right so everything I say must be suspect.

However I did what Wendall said. system options/ system library / electrical/ standard items. highlighted the "outlet" and then clicked the copy symbol/ gave it a new name and got it to orientated the way I wanted. saved it and went into the plan I was in and added the  "outlet sideways" as it was named. In that drawing and project the outlet shows up sideways like requested.   So thinking I had it I go into another plan to try adding it in. When I choose the "outlet sideways" in that little window is shows up sideways. However when I go into 3d or elevation mode the outlet shows up vertical.

According to that it sounds like you have everything right. I tried placing the one I created in a different project, and it worked fine. Right click on the outlet from the 3d window and make sure it's the one called "outlet sideways" that you're viewing.

Also, if you had the same name for a symbol from before or it was a previous project be sure to update the drawing library so it is current with the new system library.

Sometimes what can happen to me is that I modify it in the DRAWING LIBRARY instead of in the SYSTEM LIBRARY. Could this explain why it works properly in one project, but not in others?
