When I try to paint an area it gives me an error message that the area is too large to paint. Even if I draw a box it will give the same error message. I tried to do a paint break but it didn't help either. Any ideas what may be causing the problem? I did not create the original drawing.

If it is a big area, draw a regular line to split the area in half, paint the area on each side, then erase the line in the middle. If the area is not actually that big, check to see if you have any spaces open to the outside of the drawing.

You can use a paint break also, it doesn't need to be deleted and won't print.

Yes, in that case the problem is probably a break in the edges of the area you are trying to paint.

Zoom in as close as you can but still have the area to be painted fully visible. Then try again to paint it. I get that warning quite regularly and zooming takes care of the issue for me.

I have zoomed, I have made a small sqaure, I have tried a paint break. There is some glitch or setting that is off. I am only trying to hatch a small bathroom floor, so even if I draw a rectangle its only maybe a 4'x4' rectangle, but it still will not hatch. Any other thoughts?

Can you paint the hatch on another drawing page?  What I'm getting at is that you are actually painting the hatch but the paint is not visible on that page. Also, how do other paints work (what are you using as paint?)?

just basic hatch patterns like a brick pattern. I ended up having to copy another paint pattern over to another area and then regenerating and that worked. It also worked if I drew a very tiny box like a 1x1, but not if I drew say a 4'x4' box. I've never had this issue before.

Do you have paint turned on in Options, Visible Items, Drawing Items?

I thought of that as well, but in that case there wouldn't be an error message.

Right, Henry (wasn't thinking about the error message). Is it set as shade paint?

If I understand this right, you can apply the paint pattern any where else on this drawing except in this one area and only in a 1x1 box and no larger?  If true, you have a black hole!  Maybe not, but if this is correct, it is pretty wild....

I had this problem in the pre-release 2024. Tech support told me to zoom extent before painting and then it worked. Not sure what version you are working in or if it might work anyway.
