I am trying to add an opening (48x48 Arch) to a 2x4 wall that will show a basement window in a concrete foundation.  The arch does not show drywall material on the 2x4 width.  Any ideas how I can wrap this with drywall and/or wood?   This also applies when I place an arch opening in a wall for a hallway, etc.  I have submitted a trouble ticket. Version 2024

Which arch are you using?  I always use flat cased for basement walls.

Try editing the Window and add Interior Trim.

I have used flat as well created a 48x48 square as most of my basement windows are 48.  I just cannot seem to wrap the inside of the arch with drywall.  It shows the wall studs.

I have tried adding trim but does seem to work correctly or extend to the front face of the wall.  The inside of the arch needs to be drywall to match walls.

You could also make a new opening that is either defined as a window without a sash or glazing or where you turn off visibility for those parts and then trim on the inside. You would want to make the frame 1/2" or whatever size you want for drywall thickness. I find some of these quirks with the program aren't worth the hassle, but become necessary when wanting to show a finished space in renderings or details.

If you define your basement wall with the 2x4 wall included with the concrete wall then I think the interior trim would work.

Yes, Richard. Then it would work. It's always good to hear how others set things up. I learn so much from reading what members of the forum do.

In this case, what I find is the interior framed wall often needs to be a different height and stepped differently than the foundation wall to make sense for how it actually gets built. So, as I assume others may do, I keep them as separate walls, thus creating this problem. I have found a separate interior wall and opening aligned with openings in the foundation also helps me control the overall finish look.

I also prefer to have my foundation totally separate from the lower floor plans on 95% of my projects. So, I actually make any concrete foundation walls shown on the lower floor plan so they don't extract in 3D. It is a bit redundant when there are openings or changes to the layouts, but makes my model more the way I want it. My foundation is a separate drawing that I can model by itself if needed. I am really liking the ability to add steps, rakes, etc. to tops and bottoms of walls.

Mark, we have some walk-out basements to the rear here, I've always included the studed wall with the basement wall definition. It doesn't always cleanup like i would want it.
