Don't know about you, but I never seem to be satisfied with how stone looks ...

So I decided to do something about it.

I have created a stone texture that is large enough that it doesn't appear at first glance to have an obvious pattern match, which is very important to me. It doesn't change colour suddenly like some of the more obvious ones, and is neither tan nor grey, but can be used as both (or at least I think so). It's also non-descript enough to pass as a generic stone texture. So in my opinion, a jack of all trades stone texture.

Have a look, and by all means download it and use it. Download the ZIP (there's only one file in it) NOT the screenshot ... Just put the screenshot up so you could try and find the seams before you looked at the JPG ... I have a hard time, and I know where they are. FYI, the screenshot has parts of 6 JPG's in it. There is one horizontal seam and 2 vertical ones ...

I would welcome feedback - positive or negative.

Looks a lot "greyer" than I hoped when it's applied. So maybe I'll have to look at changing the tones somewhat. Oh well! Another project for another day.

It looks good for a grey stone though.

Dark Tan?

I have to admit, these aren't as they appeared in my head ... Trying to get the colour blends right is difficult ... if you can use them go ahead.

Have you downloaded the free ones that are available from the manufactures of manufactured stone?  I have a bunch of them that I use a lot.  Coronado has a bunch of them that are useful.  I think I have downloaded from several others before as well, maybe Cultured Stone being one of them.

Softplan + has all the BORAL/CULTURED STONE textures in it. However, I find that most of them have a noticable pattern repeat, because of either a too small sample, of a distinct colour pattern.

Thanks for the heads up about CORONADO, there are some really good seamless textures there.

I was just playing with some graphic design and having fun. As far as I am concerned, you can't have too many textures.

I've downloaded ALL the stone textures from Coronado ... there are about 250 or so and they cover a large range of types.

The stone "we" use most in our section of Ontario is SHOULDICE, and they don't have useable seamless textures of their stone on their site - at least not that i can find. My attempt (and It's getting better all the time) is to try and create an imitation Shouldice texture.

I like the idea that I can create useable textures that work on my drawings.

Now to you that may not be much ... Personally I think it's quite an achievement for me, and believe it or not, these textures are almost perfect for what I want to show, which is a generic grey or tan stone texture that doesn't show obvious patterns. And you have to admit, they aren't bad for something that's WHOLLY computer generated.

I noticed on the Coronado website they had a hatching library…and what seemed to be a complicated way to get it into AutoCad.  Can their hatching be saved in SoftPlan and is it a complicated process?  Is there a source out there for other types of hatching?   …my engineer (AutoCad guy) constantly complains about SoftPlan's fills and hatching, I thought I would see if I could find something that would keep him happy.

As far as I am aware, there is no simple way to get an AUTOCAD hatch pattern into Softplan.
