Hi Everyone,

We are upgrading one of our computers for an employee who does the most intense 3d modeling (in some cases, 10,000 sqft full interiors). We want her to have the fastest computer option, processor, video card, etc...

What recommendations do you have to best utilize Softplan's "need for speed"?

Thank you!

Brendan

I have used Puget Systems computers in Seattle to build me a custom machine. They will ask what programs you use (they have in-house experts for the various programs out there), what your expectations are and then build you a rock solid machine that has a great warranty and life time customer support. I can very highly recommend them!

I have updated/rebuilt my computer a couple of times, so it is now basically a custom machine.  By the best video card you can afford, make sure the power supply matches it properly and max out the RAM.  I'm using 64GB Ram and running NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 with 12GB RAM on board (I think).  Memory and graphics card are key.  When looking at hardware, take a look at their PassMark scores (Passmark.com).  The higher the score, the better the performance.

This Intel Raptor Lake processor can run up to 32 threads for when your running "Ray-Traced" mode

You'll probably also want at least a Nvidia RTX 4080 video card, if not a RTX 4090.

I have a custom built computer just for SotfPlan with an Intel i7 2.9GHz processor, 32 GB of RAM and an EVGA GeForce RTX 3070 graphics card and this thing has zero problems running ray traced mode. Like others have said, RAM and graphics card are more important than processor.

Agreed, but you do need to ensure that your processor isn't bottlenecking the other components. So it still needs to be a capable item.

It's not whether there are problems running ray-traced mode, but how fast you want to go. The more threads the processor can use, the more "buckets" the rendering will be divided into when running ray-traced renderings. Of course the base speed of the processor will affect almost all areas of our favorite program, and the new ones run up 6GHz.

Okay, we bought the best computer and video card money can buy and I'm disappointed or doing setup wrong.

System:

13th Gen Intel® Core™ i9-13900K   3.00 GHz

64 mb RAM

Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 Ti

Windows 11

My gut tells me its not configured correctly. Can anyone help a layman make this render/respond lightning fast? I am only modeling in "Shaded" view, not doing full renderings, and it does the slow stop. Also, commends take a few seconds to initiate.

Any help?

Thank you!!

Brendan

Brendan - My RAM and graphics card match what you have but I have an i9-14900K  3.20 GHz and my computer ray traces all day without sweating. Make sure you are using DirectX 12 in the Mode Options Renderer Tab.

Again, make sure you have the 3D mode set to use the 4070, and not the onboard graphics.

Keith , Softplan does not show up on the NVDIA control panel under programs installed on this computer, box checked. Are you familiar with steps to add Softplan to the list of recognized programs? Thanks, Steve

To the right of the box for the list of programs there is a box for adding. Select that box and scroll until you see the SoftPlan program in the list. Then add it. Then, check the settings are for your graphics card of choice and select apply in the bottom right corner when set.

Thanks Mark, My issue is that Softplan is not showing on the list of programs recognized on this computer that I am running Softplan on. Any input on adding Softplan to the recognized list of programs? Thanks

Go to the Nvidia Control panel and select add, then browse, then find the Softplan Application file in the Softplan 2022 folder, or where you have Softplan installed.

I think that's how i did it! Should've left this for Keith to Answer Sorry  :(

Not problem ... I don't care who answers as long as the original poster can get a good answer.
