OK Softplan users I need your opinions.

I'm in need of a new laptop and am looking at the Lenovo ThinkPad W541. Have read reviews and users like it with a CAD programs.

However it has a W540 NVIDIA Quadro K1100M 2G graphics card and Softplan says the Quadro series is not recommended, that it delivers poor performance.

Is it really that bad and what kind of "Poor Performance" are they talking about.

Do any of you have a Quadro series card in your compter and do you notice poor performance?

Really would like some insight here.

Thanks.

I have a NVIDIA Quadro K2000 and never seen a problem with it. I know that I had a problem once and Softplan was blaming the NVIDIA but it turned out to be an update that didn't install properly. I'm on 2014, don't know if it would have an impact with 2016?

The Quadro cards are often preferred for Cad sotware like Autocad, Datacad, Generic Cad etc.

They are considered "worksstation" cards.

SoftPlan specifically recommends using a higher end "gaming" card for best performance.

I have nVidia 660 Ti and it works very well.

There are much faster cards out now but stick with the Ti cards for best performance.

I have a GeForce GTX 745 and it was great.

I had a Quandro on a laptop and it wasnt bad.  A bit slow but worked.  Renderings were better than Texture.  But the GeForce is better (though it is on a desktop)

I used to build all my computers myself but with the way that they advance I just stopped and buy any computer that has a dedicated graphics card. As long as it has this your are pretty well set off and I can keep upgrading computers faster because I do not spend a ton of money on buying the best possible one out there.

I run a GeForce GTX 960 and it is very fast.  I have a Quadro in my 3d workstation and I also have Softplan on it (2016).  I have noticed a definite speed difference and given the price difference in the cards, go with a GeForce.  You will be happier and save yourself some money.
