  In the beginnings of designing a custom home for customer when the client brought in an interior designer 

to review and adjust the floorplan to her specifications before the final footprint of the house has been established.

We were hired to design the entire house, inside and out, and develop the full set of working drawings, all on a bid

with set price for the service. If the interior designer reviews the initial preliminary floorplan and design, rearranges

the rooms without considering bearing points etc. how do you bill out your time for readjusting the floorplan to work?

    Has anyone been so fortunate to have the Interior Designer involved in designing a house you were hired to design 

and did it end well?

I have had the pleasure of a similar experience before. The designer attempted to take control of the house design at our very first meeting. I let her say all the things she wanted to and then turned to the clients and informed them that it is the interior designer's job to decorate the home that I and them have created- not the other way around. I explained a few basics of proportion, location, structural requirements etc. and that they either want me to design and produce the CD's for their new home or they can have her do it. She stated that she doesn't have the expertise to do the structural aspects and CD's and I should just figure out how to make what she produces work!  So I asked how much experience in home design she had and her reply was she hadn't ever done a whole house before. I turned to my clients and suggested that either we move forward with the contract we have in place with me designing their home or I could recommend a mechanic down the street that could probably do their design since he wouldn't have any design experience either. Call me when you've made your decision. That call came about a month later after she did some sketches for them.

I am still serving time after shooting the interior designer.  All of them!      Happy ending. Actually the ones I have worked with on commercial work have been great and I have learned a lot from them.  Some of the residential interior designers.......whatever.
