New user. After drawing a line in roof mode is there a way to edit it (move, trim and etc) in that mode or any other mode besides draw mode? A bit frustrated. John

Don't think there is a way to draw a "line " in roof mode. Without giving it much thought, I don't think you can draw a line in any mode but "drawing" mode.

Most everything is an object, like "roof outline"

Guess question would be , what are you trying to accomplish.

Understanding the program like anything is maybe a little frustrating at first.

For me it made sense that drawing a wall for instance, you are drawing a 3D wall, which is an object, not lines.

So like the roof lines, aren't lines, they are hips, ridges, eaves, etc.

Press "L" to  draw a line in roof mode.

Or edit your setup in each mode you want to show shapes in the tool bar. Some limitations on the editing once drawn in roof mode though.

I have the same problem. I like to draw arrows on the roof plan to help the truss company design the trusses. First I need to make shapes visible in options/visible items, and this allows me to draw arrows. However, after the arrow is drawn it can't be moved except for going back to drawing mode and moving it from there. It is frustrating because they need to line up with certain text that I placed in roof mode and it becomes a guessing game of switching back and forth and trying to get everything to line up.

Wendall,

If attached to text use pointer from the notes tab instead of arrows (you also can add the shortcut to your toolbar or a keyboard shortcut). Also, if concerned about what shows up where, set a layer for ROOF ONLY or something like that and put anything you use in roof mode on that layer to keep it from showing up elsewhere by accident. Not all things will, but it allows for better control sometimes. Also, then you can activate that layer in other modes for easy editing of parts in roof mode that do not play well.

John & Wendall, arrows and Spline arrows could prove to be handy in roof plan mode, maybe even all the basic cad commands.  Make a suggestion, they're usually pretty responsive to suggestions.

Make a symbol that contains the arrow you need. Place the symbol in Roof mode. Once placed you can move or rotate the symbol in Roof mode.

You can manipulate drawing items in ROOF MODE, by right clicking and ADD SELECTION them you can right click again and MOVE, EDIT, COPY etc.

Seems the problem with doing lines on the roof mode is that they also show on the drawing mode, from what I can see, is there a way around that, so when you just want a line on the roof mode ?

I use the Birds Eye view for information your speaking about.

On that page I show the field frame areas, pitch, slope, down spout locations for one county, crickets, overhangs, gable set backs, heel heights, chimneys, reverse gable info., cupolos etc.

The best way I've found is to turn on visibility of the roof outline, framing, etc. while you are in drawing mode.  As stated above all the annotations, arrows, etc. that you add should be on a layer that is only visible while in roof mode.  Once you're done just turn off visibility of the roof items and custom layer.  You would also have to edit visibility while in roof mode for the custom layer to show.  I suppose you could also make a custom drawing mode but I haven't taken the time to do that.

Keith's solution is exactly what I was looking for. Right clicking on the item and ADD SELECTION allows you to move it at will. Once the item is in place you need to right click again and CLEAR SELECTION.

You can also use ESC to clear the selection.
