I have a small Lumber Store project creating a couple of sales floor office spaces.   They want to take this

opportunity to install a few exposed trusses over these spaces including drop gables and lookouts.

How do you draw a Drop Gable Truss?

Actually another basic question I have is ... "When drawing a Truss Set is it proper to Snap the Truss Set

to the Walls or to the Overhang" ?

Thanks

JimC

For an individual drop gable truss in roof mode go to Draw>Framing> Gable End Truss click on desired location, adjust using set distance to set on gable end.

Snap the truss set to the overhang for truss tails to extend to overhang line.

Thanks Steve, much appreciated.   I didn;t see Drop Gable Truss the first time I looked, I'll have to look again !

When you snap the truss set to the overhang, I normally adjust them back 1½" for the fascia, so that the truss ends don't show on the 3D.

Keith,

The truss ends wouldn't normally show unless you choose to extract the roof framing members. Do you typically generate the roof framing in your SoftView drawings?

Typically NO, I don't, normally I don't even bother drawing them unless they are exposed, since we don't use Softlist. However I just did a place with exposed trusses, and it was an issue. Jim specifically said that he was using exposed trusses, so I ASSUME, that he will be extracting them in the model.

where exactly is this "drop gable truss" command in / roof mode  >  draw / framing > menu ?

is it somehow connected to "outrigger set"

i can't find anything close

The outrigger set will drop the top chord of a truss in reference to the depth of the outrigger.

Drop Gable is same as Gable End Truss and, as James mentioned adjusts top chord to accommodate outrigger set depth.

I tried this but I cant seem to get only one section exposed.

I want the left side to be exposed lumber (like a trellis) but as you can see if I delete the roof area or change overhang or trying not to show the roofing and sheathing the trusses disappear.

Your best bet is to create a 3D symbol of a truss exactly what you want to see - draw it on plan, and form a solid polygon, and re-orient to suit - and place the 2D representations on the plan to suit.

Dang it.  I am not good at creating 3D.  :( .  Guess I need a second best bet
