This must be easy, and I'm just missing it...

Can I change which side of the breakline is dashed on a stair run?  If so, how?

Not really. You can but you would have to reversed the direction of the stair meaning the direction of the stair would be wrong.

Then maybe I am doing something wrong in my set up process?  I draw my main floor, and I want the upper portion of the stair run to be dashed.  I complete my design, then I save my drawing to a new file to start my upper floor.  My stair is drawn properly, and is in the right location, but I now want the lower portion of the run to be dashed.

In this situation, I always need to redraw and locate the stair run?  Seems like unnecessary work...

For the model you just need one stair. For plan view, use the actual stair on one floor and stair symbol on the other. You can make your own stair symbol, only takes a couple minutes.

In the edit dialog you can change the setting from bottom to top and then it will reverse the dashed side like you are saying.

Brian beat me to it.

It under "options" listed as "reference".  Works perfectly.
