I generally do not submit trouble like this to tech support until others have the same problem.

I would not try this in a valuable drawing.

In fact, normally the problems happens early on so anyone can recreate this in little time.

After creating walls and dimensions try Block Moving the entire building with cursor lock off and moving in a x and y direction (random angular direction).

Many times some of the dimensions are off by 1/32 with opposite side of building.

If this happens, now try correcting the problem.

1. Remove extension lines of bad dimension, then re-dimension. Did this fix it?

2. Adjust wall length away and back, then repeat step 1.  Did this fix it?

3. Edit wall and make sure angle is not off. If it is correct it repeat step 1.  Did this fix it?

Can anyone else recreate this issue?

first rule of softplan

NEVER "block move" any walls freely.  especially a whole drawing.

when block moving,  make sure cursor lock is ON and

moving in one direction at a time.

not sure why or when you'd want to move walls with cursor lock off.

TIP:  after you draw you "FIRST" floor plan and "save as" you next floor plan.

DON'T block move "ANY" of the ENTIRE PLANS.

Like Randy said, you shouldn't block move anything with the cursor unlocked. However I have found another issue with drawings being off the grid by 1/32. If you copy and paste an entire drawing with the softplan clipboard (and this is with the cursor locked), sometimes the drawing that was pasted will be off by 1/32 - sometimes just the X axis, and sometimes just the Y. This is easily corrected though, you just need to block move the entire drawing the 1/32 in the correct direction with the cursor locked.

I normally draw a horizontal line and a vertical line, then block move with SELECT MOVE POINT and snap to the intersection of the two lines, That seems to put them back on the "grid".

Not sure how this MATH works though ,,,

must be related somehow ...

Funnily enough, I always block move my plans to put them somewhere close to the centre of the page when they have been almost completed. I never had any issues with positioning.

it's ok to block move the FIRST plan you draw as long as you block move in one direction

at a time and NEVER with the cursor lock OFF.

than your SAVE AS plans will be in the same place as the first drawn plan.

RARELY use Save As plans - nearly always start new plans, but do use OVERLAY. I've found in the past with the amount of changes needed to walls types and positions, it's invariably just as fast to start new plans.

confused keith.

how do you draw your 2nd floor or your foundation plans if you don't do a save as

of your first drawn floor plan ?

after i've drawn my first floor with is also my mine floor plan, I always

do a file/save as and rename it either 2nd floor or foundation or

basement.  and go from there.

Start a new plan from scratch with OVERLAY on, and basically trace over the outer walls. The outer ones are typically the only ones that are in the same place.

SoftPlan recommends using the Save As command.

As Randy said in another thread

"best for each person to play with both and see what work easiest for them, our minds think differently".

We will have to agree to disagree John, In a two storey maybe, but I do probably 95% bungalows. The basement is so different in wall construction, heights etc. that to me, regardless of what Softplan recommends, it is easier to redraw it. The position of the outer face of the outer wall and the position of the staircase are all that is constant. Again, as a personal thing, I find it easier (and much quicker) to start a fresh drawing, than to erase almost everything, and edit what remains. It wouldn't be the first time that I'd almost finished a drawing and realised that the basement wall height is wrong. If I draw over the overlay, I know the basement wall is the right construction, and the right HEIGHT.

I do it this way.

Foundation and roof framing plans are line drawings. SP is great for floor plans and elevations, but not so much for Florida engineers and building code. It's a shame SP is not more like AutoCAD for line drawings. Uses too much memory for fine details in line drawings.
