How do I change the lineal foot calculations to pcs?

ie. I buy 2x6 - 16 ft plate material not 700 lf.

Thanks in advance

You will have to change the formula to divide by 16 and call them pieces

Ok, got part of that. I get 16' ers' up to 16' but it doesn't break down long lengths 26'5, 32'. It reports an unavailable material.

Thanks again

Dave

Do you have a "Lumber Table " setup with a 2x6x16' in it?

Yes, it doesn't shorten a long length down to 16', the system is looking for long plates i.e. 26'

You have to specify the stock length you want to use (see highlighted in formula attached)

This is how mine works by getting lengths and doing coverage of 16

How would I specify random lengths? For example, if I had a 28' wall, how can I make it specify a 16' and 12' wall plate? Thanks!

I'm one of those guys that has always been intrigued by Softlist, understands that it can do a better job of estimating than any human as long as it has the correct information, but has not figured out how to tweak it to my liking. I've always been very quickly frustrated by it. I've used ChatGPT to help me with many things, and it's been incredibly useful --- not for Softlist. I tried having ChatGPT answer Dennis' (and my) question, but spent over an hour of copy and pasting, reporting errors, trying again, with no success. This morning I had an 'AHA!' moment, sat down at the computer, and punched it in.

Credit to Philip for laying the groundwork above.

So I only want it to list 12' and 16', so I'm taking the total length / 2, then dividing by 12' and 16'.

If I wanted to use 8' - 16' material, I could do 5 separate lines and take the total length / 5, then divide by 8, 10, 12, 14, 16.

There may be a way to do that all in one line, but once I got it I decided to leave it.

Why /2?

Uh oh, I'm in the Softplan Forum principal's office!

Because I am using 2 different lengths of lumber to fill the total length. So I'm telling Softlist that for half of the total length, I want to use 16'. For the other half of the total length, I want to use 12'.

On a 25' x 25' square box, with 3 plates (300 LFT of plate), Softplan spits out 13 @ 12' and 10 @ 16' -- which adds up to 316 LFT.

There could very well be a better way to do it, but that's what worked for me.
