Roof -> Roof Plane, draw plan over hole.

See Image:

1. I changed the Roof Plane Material to 20, then Edit -> Surface Copy/Paste the drywall to Roof Plane

2. Is the final result

Yes!! Do it all the time. I also use it in site mode to help contour voids, etc. Get creative!!!
