i am not sure buy by back ground color to a gray and i would like the change it how is this done

Under SYSTEM OPTIONS > ASSIGN COLOURS, there's a specific colour box for BACKGROUND, which you can change to whatever you want

You will also have to do it in PROJECT OPTIONS > ASSIGN COLOURS if you want it to take immediate effect.

that dose not change on the system or Project not sure what i am doing wrong

I guess you're talking about the background of the drawing and not the model? Did you click in the box under "Background Color"?

white what what i was trying to change but dose not change i am trying to do a screen shot but not formiler with that

I you want to change the 3D background click on the icon in the toolbar. I have attached a screenshot with the icon highlighted in yellow.

Ron, Do you have specific Drawing Options for that drawing. Drawing/Project options (as described above) should change the background colour immediately.

it did change in the floor plan but did not change in the foundation plan

Try changing DRAWING OPTIONS > ASSIGN COLOURS > BACKGROUND COLOR from the foundation plan too.
