I need to create and place a degree sign in a softplan drawing next to a written 270 degrees not on a property line.

If you are using "SPHAND" font, hold down the ALT key while keying in 0176

 

This is done in the Notes dialog box.

Try the "Char Map" button on the Note dialog.

The degree sign - ° - can be inserted in most fonts with ALT248

 

The font you use must support that particular character.
