I can't seem to get my ridge vent to look differently than my ridge cap.  I'm not really sure what a ridge cap is anyway.  We typically just have an asphalt shingle roof with ridge vents on top of it.  It seems you can only get a ridge vent if you also have a ridge cap.  As shown in the screenshots, I'm trying to get teh ridge cap to just look like the rest of the roof and the ridge vent to be plain white.  Is there a way to make this work?

Also, can you only do one vent per roof?

Here typically a vented ridge consists of installing the ridge vent over the top shingle rows, then applying ridge cap over the ridge vent, so the only differerence in appearance from a regular ridge cap is that the ridge shingles sit a little higher over the vented ridge than non vented ridges. In that way, you really don't see much difference between the 2.

I don't know if anyone else has had trouble with roof settings not changing when we edit them, but I have had some issues and submitted tickets. It may be they've fixed it in this last round, I will have to double-check. But, maybe the changing of materials is not staying as you edit it due to that issue??

Dennis and Verlin are both correct.

Softplan is giving us the ability to use 2 different materials (textures) however 3d is NOT supporting this.

Generally ridge vent is covered with 'hip and ridge' shingle or regular shingle so the shingle texture and ridge texture is usually the same.

i 'm unsure if SoftList is effected by this.

I can't even see a differentiation in a section view.  I'm not sure where it does show up.  There also doesn't seem to be a way to do more than one vent on a roof, no matter how complex it is.

In my case, I don't have shingles on top of the vent.  That's pretty common around here.

I was resigned to creating a symbol for roof vents.  Obviously, that's a pain when the roof changes.  The symbols also show up on the floor plan unless you separate them onto another layer.

How are others doing roof vents?

Here’s another recent video on roofs that may be of interest to some of you when doing roofs.
