What is the quickest Laser tape to drawing on the move for a school size project?

Can Softplan integrate disto measurements while drawing on say an Ipad?

Anything for Android?

Can Magicplan be used to import directly into Softplan with lines? (Limited drawing size, accuracy, time to go around site, wait before getting the drawing.

Do you think it would be good for Softplan to do a light version in partial 2D/3D to be able to input measurements directly from disto to an Android tablet. Once basic plan drawn with doors, windows etc. it could be uploaded into the full Software on a computer and given full capabilities to finish off the drawing. Cutting down the time of double drawing?

What do you guys find the quickest and most accurate to put a plan in your hands on that day of site visit?

Looking forward to your comments?

Is it that old of a building that the local building department does not have anything on file? I always check that first. Then, if possible I use existing floor plans and survey documents to get a rough layout in SP. Then I use my older Bosch laser and tapes to measure and record as-built dimensions on a PDF of that initial layout. Saves me lots of headaches. I know some use scanning apps or companies. For something larger I wonder what costs would be involved in hiring one of the scanning companies. But, be cautious as I've found (in my experience) that the contents and the oddities don't always translate well. Measurements might be close, but not completely accurate.

Using a laptop…

I used my grandkids to run around with the Disto to get the measurements for me.

Hi Mark & David,

Many thanks for your reply's. I do Consultancy work for a local authority and different departments do not always share plans because they try and run there own businesses and want others to pay for the information, which is not the problem, the problem it, the time it takes to get it drawn and updated, and waiting on others. There are some buildings that do not have drawings in CAD form or the information needed to do the work.

I could use a total station but then going away to draw it up, if any measurement problems the need to come back, compared to, drawing on site, would be quicker, less problematic but more awkward

So back to the question, what is the quickest Laser tape to drawing on the move for a school size project?

May be designing a wheelable trolly for laptop and mouse area, a Disto input as mentioned above would be good, and added battery pack for mobility and duration? OK that's given me something to think about?

Any suggestions would be warmly welcome?

Regards

In that case a work cart with all you need to draw on site makes the most sense. Then, the Disto is probably one of the better laser measurers out there from what I've seen.

Here’s what I bought a few years ago for doing as-builts. It is sturdy and light enough to move around easily.Attached File  IMG_3165.png   201.03KB   0 downloads
