I need to not see the boxed lines that show up on gables and intersect.   I want to use the drawing for the roof layout. would think there's a way

Try using the Elevations Top View instead, and save as a Softplan drawing.

Thanks that's the ticket, I never thought thru, that, that middle button did that, or I think I saw that years back.

If you have ridge cap and fascia, gutter, shadow board, roofing material overhangs checked it will not be accurate. Be sure to set it up so you get the accurate lines (You can just turn off display of roofing materials, etc.).
