on editing the exterior wall

the Adjust Wall Surface to ...

Cover Floor        Fit to Soffit

is lightened and will not accept a check box.  I need the wall to cover the floor system.

Why is it on in one type of wall, but not the other?

Does anyone one know how to turn the option "on"

Thank you.

In order to have the wall surface "Cover Floor" the wall has to be actually sitting on the floor. Check your wall offsets and make sure that it is set correctly. You can always go into "Profile" mode to visually confirm that this is the case.

Hey Philip, I was having the same problem. Adjusting and setting the offsets of each item was giving me a lot of grief so, I just erased it all and redrew the subfloor assembly and it put it back where it fits the wall to cover  the floor. I tried the profile idea but it didn’t show the joists , just the top Of the foundation. Weird.

Any idea on how to get the wall to cover the floor in this case? As you can see, the basement walls are two different definitions (and heights), so that the floor joists essentially go on top of the wall to the left, while the floor joists sit against the 1.5' stone part of the wall to the right. When I use the "cover floor" command in my walls, it works for the left main floor wall, where I want the siding to cover the visible floor joists, but it does not work for the right wall, where I want the siding to only cover the sill plate (or maybe an inch farther) from the wall below...when I try to "cover floor" with this right main floor wall, it covers as far down as the left main floor wall (to cover the joist set), which I do not want. Any advice?

Here is a cross section view--you can see the sill plate, and how I just want the main floor wall siding to come over that sill plate, and maybe a little bit further over the stone.

But here you can see that, with the left wall, I am fine if the siding from the main floor wall covers the entire joist set distance, which it does with the "cover floor" command. But here too, I'd actually want the siding to cover an inch or so more of stone...

Make sure you have a "Sill Plate" if its a wood floor system.

This is the photo that was supposed to go with this text: Here is a cross section view--you can see the sill plate, and how I just want the main floor wall siding to come over that sill plate, and maybe a little bit further over the stone.

Why is your subfloor not out to the edge of the rim joist? If you adjust/clean up that your siding and wall will clean up better.

If you want to have the siding hang down below the stone/bottom of floor system, you can cheat it by setting a sill plate that is offset below the joists/sill plate. Or, create a wall assembly with a transition for the siding and sheathing as you want.

Set the new lower sill plate to be 0'-0" wide and make sure it references the outside edge of the bearing part of the walls.
