When drawing furring walls in a basement, 1/2" away from the foundation walls:

My symbols, cabinets, etc all snap to the foundation walls instead of the furring walls.

I know that I can put all the foundation walls on a layer and turn off the layer then draw the symbols.

Is there an easier way to do this?

Also, when moving walls near cabinets, fixtures etc.  my symbols move with them even though I turn off the "attach" button.  How do I stop this.

Example, inserting a 5' wide shower unit into an opening that is 5'-3" wide.  I edit the dimension to make it 5'-0", the shower moves with the wall so I have go back and move the shower again.

Absolutely. Don't make them two separate walls.
