I'm trying to create a vertical b and b siding

right now its a bunch of close lines.

using edit/edit surface i now have a tab that shows texture color/lighting/options

using options my preview looks like i want

Distance is my problem,

my wall is 10 ft tall, siding should be 8" vertical

how do i know what to use for Horizontal and vertical?

i would think that horizontal would be 10' and vertical would be 8" that doesn't fix my problem

the Maintain Aspect Ratio- where does this come into play?

Thank you

If you're creating a board and batten texture, rather than a wall, then Softplan Uses 16 pixels per inch (1 pixel = 1/16 inch) so you can design the pixel size of your texture accordingly.

Keith, that is like a binary number thing, i don't get it?

under surface edit options distance i need a number for horizontal and vertical.

wall is 10 ft tall and so is siding

siding board and batten is in 8" widths

how do i make the 1/16" pixel formula

the next box of choice is "Maintain aspect ratio"  when do i use or not use this option?

thank you

i think of it in terms of what is the 'display texture' showing.

for example here is a chunk of b/b with a horiz distance of 1'-0".  in 3d or model view it appears to be 12"

I don't understand the pixel stuff either.

Great b/b selection in Cedar Creek textures

Just to be clear, what exactly are you trying to create.

I used a wall from SP 2022 2x4 Board and Batten,

i tried to edit the surface with certain teed color that is in my selections.

im just trying to get a certain teed siding color as a 8" vertical B and B look in mountain cedar.

I dont really know what im doing :{

Joe smith has a thumbnail picture of cedar creek siding. Im assuming he imported that in. How?

im waiting on SP support to somehow explain to me how to know what the dimensions are to be used in surface options /Distance of Horizontal and vertical

Thank you

You don't generally need to set both height and width as the textures are normally seamless and repeat to suit. If you have a texture that only shows one batten, then set it as 8" horizontal (2 =16", 3=24" etc. Normally you wouldn't want to stretch a texture disproportionately, so you would almost always check "Maintain Aspect Ratio" and edit one dimension to suit, to resize the whole texture.

What I was saying about pixels earlier, if you have downloaded any (seamless) texture from the internet, say it shows 4 horizontal battens and 4 boards, and you therefore want that texture to be 32" wide (4 x 8" spacing) then that particular texture will have to be 512 pixels wide (or have to be resized as a jpg to 512 pixels wide) - 32" x 16 pixels/inch

You can normally calculate how wide you want the texture to show, based on what the texture itself shows - for example if you want this texture:

to have battens at 8" o.c. then it would be set at 32" wide ... and indeed, I designed it to be 32" wide ... so 512 pixels.

Attached File  2021.11.23_13h17m09s_001_.png   18.55KB   0 downloads

As a general rule, you wouldn't want to change any of the texture sizes - They SHOULD be correct as they were designed - unless they are obvioulsy wrong.

Does any of this make sense now?

Keith, that helps a lot.

SP support , Jacob and i just confirmed that my image i was copying was too small and was including the box around the sample color from Certainteed. I agreed. Problem resolved and between you and SP support Jacob i have learned a few things regarding copying and creating.

Looking at your thumbnail of the pixels, i've never seen that option box. Once i find that the pixel example will definitely make sense to me. :)

Thank you Keith.

That box is a Windows box - go to any image in WINDOWS EXPLORER - C:\SoftPlan\3D\Textures\Bitmaps etc. - right click and go to PROPERTIES > DETAILS
