Is there a way to change the underlying degree orientation in drawings? The default orientation of North is the top of the screen, but this is 90 degrees on the degree scale. I know how to change the orientation of North, but this is not what I want to do. When transferring field points from my total station to a site plan drawing, I currently draw a line from the known control point on the drawing and then edit the length and degree of the line. I can then snap a shot point to the end of the line to mark my field observation. It would be much easier to do this if the degree scale were rotated 90 degrees to make North= 0 degrees.

Also is there an easier way to transfer the field points into SoftPlan?

I recently asked support if it was possible to have North 0deg when entering surveyor coordinates but was told it wasn’t possible. You can change North to 0 but then you can’t enter surveyor coordinates.

it gets tricky inputting the deg, min, sec when North is 90deg and East is 0

in Canada surveyors coordinates start clockwise at N 0d0’0”

Bit off topic, but have any of my fellow Canadians found a simple way to enter surveyor coordinates in Softplan? I usually just do it in Acad and import to Softplan.

TIA

Not sure how your surveyors coordinates differ from Ontario, but our input is generally in the format ... N88°45'10"E and it inputs perfectly ... Sorry!

Try these settings: In Australia we use the 360° clockwise and North is Zero. I have been told that the zero degrees for due East is a European convention going back to the Silk Road to China as this was very important back then. Had to get their tea for some where. Apparently we used the 90° four quadrant system until about 1896 or so.

Converting from the four quadrant to the 360° is a bit tricky at times.

Jon's instructions work perfectly, I wasn't aware I could enter surveyors coordinates with the Measure Angles Clockwise checked with North = 0.

When I went to enter the coordinates the directions were greyed out so I never tried.

This forum saves the day again!!!   lol

Thanks again Jon.
